[NCLUG] Hardware/monitor..

If you want a monitor locally, I would follow the same advice others have
posted and consider going to Best Buy and such. Monitors and cases are the
only two things I typically buy locally (due to shipping) unless there's a
killer deal somewhere. I don't know if you are interested in a monster
flat-screen Trinitron or anything, but Best Buy seems to have good deals on
the cheaper monitors. See if you can locate a KDS or Samsung... They're
cheap, have big screens, and I've been happy with value in the ones I have
purchased.

As far as hardware, I'd recommend buying on-line. Ebay is a place of great
deals, but with the amount of research and worry you wind up putting up with
(read _all_ the fine print, and deal with jackasses that outbid you in a 7
day auction with 10 minutes left with a bid that is $20 over retail...) I
now just go to www.mwave.com for all of my hardware needs. If you have a
bit more time, www.pricewatch.com is a good choice if you don't mind wading
through all of the options. You may even find a monitor cheap enough to
defray the shipping costs.

Good luck on the cabinet... It's always been a dream of mine to make one of
those, but unfortunately I live in a small apartment which I have filled
with too many computers, my guitar rig, and mountain bikes, and other
schwag... It's hard enough finding room for my bed much less the smallest
cocktail cabinet I'd considered designing.
