careful, lotsa usb serials dont work completely with linux yet.

I got burned with my belkin 7-port (4USB,2Ser,1Par) - the serials didnt
work and parallel worked poorly.

But now with 2.4.0, the serials somewhat work. I could get them to work
with my handshake-less digital camera but not with my 14.4 external modem.
Parallel printer port - no use for it for me, my usb printer suddenly
worked properly in 2.4.0 as well (thought it was a gonner too when it
didnt work with the dev kernels... After getting this thing to work, it's
nice being able to hotplug mice and it sure reduced the number of fat
cables I needed to pass between my computer closet and monitor/work area.
Now if I could somehow get my usb keyboard working properly and get rid of
another cable...

The serials end up at major 188, minor 0 and 1. Character devices
obviously. I don't know if I mknodded them manually so i dunno the
proper name for them but somehow I have them as /dev/usb/tts/[01] ... I
might have read that's the devfs name so I cloned it though I dont devfs.
