[NCLUG] PHP and MySQL vs. ASP and MSSQL

While we are on the topic of web hosting, I've decided to give the Verve
Webhosting a shot.

They offer PHP and MySQL support, but I frequently write web applications
using Microsoft ASP and SQL.  Does anyone have experience with both ASP and
PHP?  Are they fairly similar?

I'm just wondering if it is realistic for me to pick up a text on PHP and
dig right in, or if I will have to put learning PHP on the back burner until
I have more time to invest in it.
