[NCLUG] measuring LAN connection speed

What command can I use to measure the speed of my 10/100 cards &
switch? I seem to recall something about catting to /dev/null from
the opposite machine's disk, and from /dev/zero or something to the
other machine's disk.

I'm wanting to set up a file server that will have decent disk speed
for video capture from another machine (which has an old and slow
drive/controller). I need at least 5-6MB/sec, so 10-BaseT won't cut
it. I need to verify that I can get that kind of speed with my 10/100
stuff and nfs.

Thanks,
  Daniel
