[NCLUG] sendmail -bv

I'm trying to verify email addresses and have been using
sendmail -bv but just found out that if the domain doesn't exist,
I'm getting a false positive. E.G. sendmail -bv foobar at nclug.con
give:

foobar at nclug.con... deliverable: mailer esmtp, host nclug.con, user
foobar at nclug.con

When there isn't any domain nclug.con, so it is obviously a bad
email address.

My sendmail is 8.9.3

Any ideas on what the problem is or how to configure it differently?

Thanks,

charles
