[NCLUG] Old newbie ... seeks counsel

Bill,

Don't know anything about AOL, but I believe they've got their own
protocol for the connection/authentication which may not have any support
in Linux.

As for ISP's, anyone that's a real ISP, as in INTERNET S..., would work. I
used FRII a while back. Currently I have Internet Commerce and
Communications for my DSL (had them for my T1 before DSL), but I think
they no longer do dial-up accounts, having sold their dial-up customers to
Earthlink. I do have an Earthlink account for dial-up which is great as
you can dial locally from just about anywhere in the US, eliminating long
distance charges. I have Qwest.net for my ISDN and they've worked, but my
choice was prompted more by the fact that my previous ISDN provider
(Earthlink) started charging by the connection hour and others I checked
do the same. Qwest has unlimited ISDN use for a flat rate. If you travel
with a computer, Earthlink is a good option. Otherwise, I'll defer to
others who have local recommendations.

On another note, in case you just joined the list, on Sat., Nov 3 from
12-4 is the Linux Install Fest. It's at the Lory Student Center at CSU,
rooms 203 and 205. Online it says 1-8. So hopefully someone else will
clarify or correct me.

Peace, William
