Thanks for the answer but if it's just a bad cable why does the winblows system work perfectly, can anybody think of another explanation? I forgot, look into disabling UDMA negotiation with the drive, or driver and see how it plays. In debugging POS servers a few years back supporting SCO Unix, Unixware, and Solaris X86 this was a common problem. Have fun, John
