char-major-81 appears to be a radio device. Perhaps some multimedia
app probing to see if you have a radio card?

You can look in ~/.xsession-errors and see if there is any more
specific messages in there. That should be the output of any commands
that run while you are logging in. 

Can a newly created user login with KDE? Might be something in your
setup? 

kdeinit appears to be in the kdelibs package, you might make sure
thats installed: 

% which kdeinit 
/usr/bin/kdeinit
% rpm -qf /usr/bin/kdeinit
kdelibs-3.0.3-8.3
