There appears to be someone using a similar iriver with linux at:

See if there is anything in dmesg after you plug it in (as the link
above suggests). 

Sometimes I have seen fedora installs not load the usb modules, so
there is no usb device loading going on. 

If you get no messages when you plug in the device you might try
doing a 'modprobe ' on these usb host modules: 

ehci-hcd
ohci-hcd
uhci-hcd
