[NCLUG] Mandrake and graphics card

Heh, I doubt you need a new mobo, and macs are the devil (I am an admin for
a small network of them) honestly, the easiest thing might just to
re-install the OS especially if you haven't done any configuring to the old
one, I personally suggest Redhat fedora, it's handled all kinds of weird
configurations I've thrown at it and the package system (rpm) is nice......

Subject: Re: [NCLUG] Mandrake and graphics card

thanks to the post about how-to's,
HOWEVER, it didn't work.!! and i got something
maybe someone can help me with.
so, ran through the ATI Radeon how-to by gracar,
ran fglrxconfig, seemed to work, no error messages
that i could tell,
but no x, even on a restart.
so read through the second one,
(based for suse)
did the modprobe fglrx and lsmod | fglrx
and all ok
BUT when I did modprobe agpgart,
this is what i got

modprobe agpgart
agpgart: Unsupported SiS chipset (device id: 0730), you might want to try
agp_try_unsupported=1.
/lib/modules/2.4.8-26mdk/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz: init_module:
No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ parameters
/lib/modules/2.4.8-26mdk/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.8-26mdk/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz failed
/lib/modules/2.4.8-26mdk/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz: insmod
agpgart failed

so, do i need a new motherboard?
do i need different software?
do i need a different graphics card?
should i just buy a mac with os10! =-p

thanks for all your help,
-lost and confuzzled
