I just looked at a big ol' graphical representation of a Linux
distributions timeline with lineage relationships that shows DSL as
having branched off from Knoppix, so it appears you're right about that.

It sounds like something to add to my arsenal, then.  I tend to prefer
FreeBSD these days over Linux distributions, but LiveCD versions of *BSD
OSes are definitely lacking in comparison with Linux LiveCD
distributions.
