Try Knoppix
Try DSL   Dam small linux  50 meg
there are others based off the knoppix as well.

They both will load to ram with the write option.

My friend Matt has a laptop that eats hard drives he runs it all from ram, last time I was there it had not be rebooted Knoppix, I think it was 8 weeks.

So, I have this mini-itx board that I'm using at home to do some various
data acquisition projects around the house. I have a database I stuff this
data into on another system. So, I was thinking, that since this thing
will PXE boot, I thought that I could simply download an OS and initrd and
run the thing totally out of memory without having to using a local
disc/CF card, what ever. From what I've read this should be possible, no?!
I've played with puppy linux which  seems to work pretty good, but I've
yet to be able to compile a kernel and create an initrd image that works.
So, just wondering if any of y'all have any pointers to successful PXE
initiated distros....
