So, if I were to bring my Frankenbox down to the installfest, would
someone try to help me to *get the #$*&^#*&$ sound working* in Ubuntu
gutsy gibbon?
I'm at the end of my rope on this one, and have tried all the fixes in
the Ubuntu help forum.
Details (in case someone can help me here, so I don't have to bug you in
person at the installfest):
AU31 motherboard, with NVidia built in video and sound. Used to be an
eMachine I think.
Nvidia native sound does not work in Ubuntu at all. Tried most
everything that doesn't require recompiling the kernal.
Creative Extigy USB sound card. With sound config set to "USB" the test
tones from system>preferences>sound -- play just fine. So do .MOV
videos, and .WAV sounds. No sounds though from any format from Firefox,
and I tried all the firefox sound fixes on the Ubuntu forums. Not just
that FLash 9.0 sounds don't play (they don't), nothing plays from the
browser.
Ubuntu picks up my entire iPod nano library on its own, w/ song title
artist etc.....but neither movieplayer nor rhythmbox will play the
tracks.

Extigy USB sound box works only thru native USB 1 ports, does NOT work
via USB 2 PCI card.
Any ideas? I saw the <access denied> stuff below and created a new user
with all access enabled, but same results.
