My complaint with GoDaddy is that they have the most horrid web site.
I call it a "Casino" style site because every square of the page is
filled with something flashing and dinging. The advertisements are
continuous and most annoying. They use javascript for navigation
which is bad but it flashes as the mouse hovers over it which is just
hideous. I hate that site. I have also on numerous occasions seen
their site return me to an error page saying (paraphrasing from
memory) that their backend servers experienced a problem, things had
crashed, and that I should try again later. But I have called their
tech support in relation to those problems and always got a real human
within a couple of minutes and service was reasonable. If you can put
up with the above problems it does seem functional for the low cost.

Personally I use DirectNIC. They are the 11th largest registrar but
it seems to be run by people who care. I think originally they were
simply a bunch of linux geeks who pursued their version of the
american dream. It still retains a Mom & Pop shop atmosphere. For
example they are based in New Orleans and during the hurricane they
stayed with the servers for days filling the tanks of generators to
keep things running while the power was off to the city. They are
more expensive but their service is good. I moved from Network
Solutions and it was good to take my money elsewhere. At that time
DirectNIC was the lowest cost registrar. But I have stayed with them
because they have done the job nicely and responsibly.
