Michael,

Others may have a different approach but my first suggestion would be to 
us Computer Renaissance.  If sit is a mechanical failure the disk will 
have to be removed from the drive and installed into a different 
mechanism.  If the data failure is of the data corruption type it is 
possible that the data could be recovered by use of a special program 
run on a working computer.
