Try CentOS 6.  I switched from Fedora 17 (because of stability issues) to CentOS 
6.3 and I haven't had a single problem.  You can hold on to Gnome 2 for another 
6 or 8 years ;)

That said, once I got used to Gnome3, I liked it just as much as Gnome 2.  The 
only reason I switched was because of freezes that are painful when you are in 
the middle of something.
