B = Bytes (8 bits)
b = bits (1 bit)
Baud = (it depends)
At risk of starting a meaningless thread on units designation, I have to
ask - is it appropriate to use a lower-case k to denote kilo (1000) or and
upper-case K?

you're talking about 14kB/s which works out to around 128kbit/s.
i blame everyone who uses `b' to mean byte when it means bit. for more
information, refer to /usr/share/misc/units.dat (if you don't have units
installed... shame on you!)
