[NCLUG] csh to bash question

Hey, 
I've got a question for all the shell gurus out there.

I need to translate this:

if ( $?MPIRUN_DEVICE ) exit

from csh to bash.  I have no idea what it does as the
$? always screws me up.  Any help is mucho appreciated.
