That means the kernel is loaded and it's trying to start the boot-up,
but is failing. That seems like a corrupt kernel sort of issue. Did
you make a boot floppy before you tried the updates? Can you boot
with the KRUD CD by selecting "rescue"? Once your file-systems
are mounted you can get back to your old system by doing chroot.
Maybe you can try re-building, or re-installing the kernel RPM and
then try building a boot floppy, restoring the lilo.conf, etc...
