Subject: [BLUGMETA] CLIQ update for LUGs
Colorado Linux Info Quest
Update: 2001-01-29
This is just a quick update on where things stand for the Colorado Linux
Info Quest. Please pass it along to your LUG membership.
Event: Colorado Linux Info Quest 2001 (CLIQ 2001)
Date: March 29-30, 2001
Place: Denver Marriott Tech Center
URL: http://thecliq.org
Sponsors
- --------
5 Sponsors have signed with a 6th tentative. The signed sponsors are
tummy.com, LWN.net, Compaq, SGI, and HP. The tentative sponsor is Sun
Cobalt. NuSphere (MySQL) has also expressed interest in sponsoring.
Exhibitors
- ----------
Compaq has purchased the largest booth by the door and is expected to erect
a very large display. tummy.com and LWN.net have been assigned their
booths as sponsors. Xi Graphics and Fairplay Communications have purchased
standard booths. SGI and HP have not requested their booths at this time.
Speakers
- --------
The following speakers have agreed to take part of CLIQ 2001, along with
their current employers/companies and expected presentations :
Andy Hertzfeld, Eazel: Desktop Linux panel discussion
Daryll Strauss, VA Linux: Desktop Linux panel discussion, some graphics
related BoF as well (topic TBD)
Havoc Pennington, Red Hat and Chair, GNOME Foundation: Desktop panel
discussion, may speak on GTK+ and GNOME as well
Scott Draeker, Loki Entertainment: Business related talk (but Linux gaming
will
probably also be discussed)
Rick Lehrbaum, LinuxDevices.com: Embedded Linux
Jon Lasser, author, "Think Unix" - TBD
Bdale Garbee - Debian
Sean Reifschneider, tummy.com: Python
A keynote has not been arranged at this time, but is high on our priority
list.
Events
- --------
The planned Meet-n-Greet session has not be arranged yet. It should be in
February sometime. A party at Dave and Busters may be scheduled, but will
require a corporate sponsor. At this time the event is not scheduled.
Advertising
- -----------
Full page ads were placed in both Linux Journal and Linux Magazine in those
publications February issues. These issues will be handed out at
LinuxWorld (both magazines) and Embedded Linux Expo (Linux Journal, at a
minimum). More ads are expected in local trade papers and newspapers, but
have not been arranged at this time.
Registration
- ------------
Compaq is donating hardware for servers and clients for use in registration
again this year. The same software written by CLIQ last year should be
used again this year. Registration will be handled by CLIQ and it's
volunteers.
Exhibitor registration has opened, but that has not been officially
announced yet.
Attendee registration should open in early February, after credit card
processing issues are finalized.
Credit cards will be accepted for preregistration and at the door this
year. Visa, Mastercard and Discover at a minimum. American Express may
also be accepted, though that isn't clear at this point.
If you have further questions, please feel free to send them to
info at thecliq.org.
Hope to see you there!
