I believe that you're thinking of "ide-floppy".  ide-disk is indeed
the correct driver for hard disks.  (there's also ide-tape and
ide-cdrom.)  Look for there to be some consolidation of these drivers
with their scsi counterparts (sd, st, sr) after the Great IDE Wars of
Linux 2.5 abate...
