Yes.  A former boss of mine had worked for Pacific Bell with Scott Adams.

The boss and Alice are both based on real people (i.e. both had their 
characteristic personalties and haircuts).  The boss sued Scott Adams when 
the cartoon first became popular, but since the cartoon never used his name, 
he lost.  Alice (I don't think that was her real name either) was called 
'pryamid-head' or some such behind her back.
