on my debian box, it's part of the xlibs package, so you'd need to install
xlib6g-dev; but I don't know how SuSE package their X.  Almost certainly
not the same way :-)

that's hardly his fault.  it's normally autoconf which decides you need
to mention each lib and its search path twenty times.
