I poked around a bit on google and it looks like it is a range of addresses
that is 'special' in IPv4 (something to do with auto-configuration - if a
client (host) doesn't have an IP address and requests one via DHCP but
gets no response, it can use an address in that range) ... it is owned by
IANA much like 192.168.x.y is ... so it may be that because DHCP timed
out, it assigned you that address ...
