By this I mean using KDE control center to configure desktop environment, I
also tried the same in gnome. Maybe it will help to say that OS is Red Hat
Linux 7.2 (upgraded from 6.0).

I found the image location and run
'grep -r dell-grayfade-back.gif /etc' and this what I got:
grep: /etc/X11/gdm/Init/Default: No such file or directory

grep: /etc/rc.d/rc1.d/K15sound: No such file or directory

/etc/skel/.kde/share/config/desktop1rc:Wallpaper=dell-grayfade-back.gif
/etc/skel/.kde/share/config/desktop2rc:Wallpaper=dell-grayfade-back.gif
/etc/skel/.kde/share/config/desktop3rc:Wallpaper=dell-grayfade-back.gif
grep: /etc/rc0.d/K15sound: No such file or directory
grep: /etc/rc1.d/K15sound: No such file or directory

grep: /etc/rc5.d/S85sound: No such file or directory
grep: /etc/rc6.d/K15sound: No such file or directory
Unfortunately I am not sure what to do about it next. Sorry to bother you
but if you could explain some more that would really help.
Elena
