By this I mean using KDE control center to configure desktop environment, I 
also tried the same in gnome. Maybe it will help to say that OS is Red Hat 
Linux 7.2 (upgraded from 6.0).

I found the image location and run
'grep -r dell-grayfade-back.gif /etc' and this what I got:

Unfortunately I am not sure what to do about it next. Sorry to bother you 
but if you could explain some more that would really help.
