As root:
cd /
find . -name dell-grayfade-back.gif
When you know where that file is located (my best guess is
/usr/share/pixmaps/dell) you could
1) Save a copy under a different name (add .orig to the file name)
and replace that file with the one you want as your desktop keeping
the name the same.
2) Save a copy under a different name, and delete the original file
I haven't tested this.
