On 21 Aug 2003 at 20:54:27, bill ehlert arranged the bits on my disk to say:
> "newsmakers Sterling Ball, a jovial,
> plain-talking businessman, is CEO of Ernie Ball,
> the world's leading maker of premium guitar
> strings endorsed by generations of artists
> ranging from the likes of Eric Clapton to the
> dudes from Metallica.
You'll note the company is in San Luis, and CPLUG took a tour of their
facility last year; it was a great tour (got to see all sorts of
interesting machines to make guitar strings and and buff guitars), but we
also got to stop in their data center to see the two servers that run the
joint and talk with their IT director; it's really cool to walk by rows and
rows of desks and see Gnome all over the place.
At that time, the only place they still had non-Linux stuff is in their
graphic design department (a couple of Macs), and some of their real time
system are controlled by OS/2. They had a SCO box doing *something*
(payroll or ordering or something?) at the time, but as the article notes,
they're getting rid of it because SCO's behavior reminds them of the
BSA/Microsoft's behavior and they don't want to even "go there."
Later,
Paul
