[NCLUG] strange TTY problems

For some reason my odd-numbered TTY's are not working... When I hit
alt-F1 (or any other odd-numbered F-key for that matter) nothing happens
but the evens (alt-F2 or any even F-key) seem to work fine.
I've checked my /etc/inittab file and everything seems to be in order
there (meaning it looks like everybody elses I've checked):
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty1
2:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty2
3:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty3
4:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty4
5:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty5
6:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty6
I also thought that maybe my keyboard wasn't working but I checked all
those F-keys and the alt key under xev and they all report normally...
Does anybody have any idea what I might do (or what I might read) to fix
it?
