[NCLUG] system hangs for 5-10 seconds every few minutes

I had this problem once with a motherboard that did not play well with a 
particular kernel version.   It had something to do with the disk 
controller and the memory controller conflicting.

Try letting it run until about when you expect it to hang, then force a 
sync.   If that causes the hang, try removing half of your memory 
(assuming it is on more than one stick) and see if that makes a 
difference.   If it does, then at least you have an area to look at.
