I recall hearing about some open source speech recognition software at
some point. You may want to do some Google searching for the terms
VoxForge and Open Mind Speech -- I think those relate to the subject. I
also seem to recall something about IBM donating some speech recognition
software technology to the Apache and Eclipse projects, though I don't
know whether anything ever came of that in terms of useful software.
