Also, the .asc extension on the signature file simply means the file is
ASCII text file. Your distribution of Linux probably does not have an
association with that file extension, and that is why you might be having
trouble opening the file when you click on it. As I had mentioned before,
you can view the file in any editor/viewer/pager.

Hi Bill,
I think you are referring to Kyle's signature file, which is merely a PGP
digital signature used for checking the integrity of the message. I don't
believe he provided that attachment as a reference file for the topic at
hand.
If you truly would like to examine the contents (to use the PGP signature),
you can drop the signature file into your editor of choice (e.g., VI/VIM,
Emacs, pico/nano, etc.) or display it with a CLI tool such as 'more' or
'less'.
