Tonight I'll bring this Clear "Rover" WiFi to WiMax 4G modem. The big
question is whether it will work at College America, they tend to be in a
kind of spotty coverage area.

This is a thin hocky puck with 4 hour of battery life, or charge over USB,
which acts as an AP for up to 5 or 8 devices (depending on the model), and
connects to the Clear WiMax 4G network. It's pretty speedy, in particular
the latency can get as low as 70ms, which for cellular-like service is
pretty good. Speed is also very good, I think it goes up to 5Mbps down,
but I haven't run any tests.

It's noticeably faster than the Sprint or Cricket modems we have. Fort
Collins has good coverage, but there are some holes.

In a couple of weeks I'll have a replacement modem that will fall back to
3G if 4G is not available. For example, between Fort Collins and Denver.

The modem has been a bit flaky, I've had to re-program it several times,
though I haven't had to for the last several uses. It may have finally
"taken".

Service is $45/month for 4G only and $55/month for 4G+3G, with significant
breaks for more than 1 device.

Anyway, if anyone wants to check it out, I'll have it at NCLUG tonight.
