If there are errors about your DVD drive in the output from dmesg or
the kernel log, definitely try another drive. Most recent drives just
work. When was the MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ8B0 manufactured?
Also, please include a reasonably small sample of the errors you are
seeing.
