anyone compile and install ZFS manually?

Hi all,
Has anybody installed the latest ZFS via compiling the source files?
Yes, my Ubuntu 22.04 has a repository for ZFS, which I'm using, but it's
outdated and I'd like the latest version. Moreover, I haven't found a good
ppa for this and sadly, Jonathonf, who had been maintaining an updated ppa,
had died earlier this year.
If nobody report this experience, perhaps I should try it and report my
experiences in an NCLUG meeting?
