any Nextcloud experts?

Hi,
My Nextcloud installation has decided to fail. The server works fine but I
find now that there is no way to run the sync tool on the same machine that
the Nextcloud server is running on. All kinds of weird errors and I cannot
sync files on the machine that Nextcloud is running on. Remote syncing
works fine, but Nextcloud is useless to me if I cannot run the sync tool on
the same machine as the server.
Are there any decent alternatives? I'm likely going to have to give up on
Nextcloud. I suspect an update has broken it because I had no problems
until the latest server update.
