Perhaps it's trying to tell you to use ssh not telnet:-P
Does TurboVNC run its own X server, or expect to connect to an existing
console X session and screen-scrape it? If the latter, you'd need to set
DISPLAY before running it. But since the logs mention "startxfce4" I
guess it's starting its own session. In that case, I don't think there's
enough log quoted to diagnose the problem.
