[NCLUG] 3c509 probs/KRUD 6 install

Hi all,
I'm trying to get KRUD 6.0 installed, and I'm having problems with my
3c509TP (ISA)
NIC's. After installation, I get this error:
eth0: Infinite loop in interrupt, status 2011.
Scyld says this is "mostly harmless" (scyld.com/network/3c509.html), but I
can't seem to
get past it when I boot the machine. It is, after all, an *infinite* loop,
and once I get
the message (near the end of the boot process, after filesystem mounting and
the attempt
to bring up eth0), I can't regain control of the machine to try to fix it.
As a self-semi-taught user of linux, my typical tactic in this situation is
to
reinstall and try again, until I get tired of it. Then I leave the machine
sitting broken
& off for a month or so, until I feel ashamed that I let the problem beat me
and try
again. This is the third iteration or so of that process, and I still am
technically not
a Northern Colorado Linux *User* because of it, at least not here at home.
Anyone want
to help?
---My plans are to try the following:
1) getting KRUD 7.2 and see if the problem goes away (on order; I'm happy to
wait & see,
but I don't know if it will fix the problem)
2) taking the NIC's out, then trying to manually configure them, then
reinstalling them?
3) getting some other cheap NIC and try that?
---Here are some of the things I think:
a) It's not the 3c509B problem with PnP settings, as this card is not a B --
it's a TP.
b) I'm in over my head, and doubt that I should have a net-connected linux
box in the
first place if I can't resolve something like this.
Any and all comments/suggestions would be appreciated.
