Cisco is looking for a Data Center Engineer for its Thornton, CO,
facility.  The Data Center Engineer plays a key role in maintaining
99.999% availability of WebEx Services to customer, and supports key
objectives related to WebEx Services and Data Centers. As part of a
Global Team, is responsible for monitoring, initial troubleshooting and
escalation of technical issues with all WebEx Services and systems.
Installs and troubleshoots hardware and data cabling in the Data Center.
Works closely with Customer Support and Engineering teams to manage and
resolve issues.  This is a graveyard shift position.

 

Overall Responsibilities 

* Monitor and troubleshoot WebEx Production Services and Network using
multiple proprietary and commercial tools. Troubleshoot system,
hardware, network and application problems. (40%)

* Monitor Remedy trouble tickets and troubleshoot, update, and resolve
as needed. (15%)

* Install hardware, assist with upgrades, and perform repair requests
with peers. (15%)

* Develop standard operating procedures and engage in training and
continuous learning with peers and other teams. (10%)

* Work closely with the peers and management on projects. Interface
with, and provide escalations to management and other teams with in
WebEx as required. (10%)

* Manage the physical Data Center infrastructure and work with vendors
to resolve problems. (10%)

 

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

* Four to six plus years experience in Data Centers, minimizing downtime
and maximizing service availability. Ability to work within standard
procedures and change control guidelines

* Four or more years work in technical environments with experience in
Linux or Unix. Windows and Networking also helpful. 

* Detailed experience and knowledge of OS and application logs and
searching and correlating errors in logs with hardware and service
problems. Hands-on experience with installing and troubleshooting Linux
and software applications.

* Familiar with physical work in Data Centers, including rack and
cabinet systems, cable trays and managers, raceways, ladder rack etc.
Ability to lift, install and work with heavy equipment.

* General understanding of Data Center infrastructure, including AC and
DC power, UPS, Generators, HVAC, Security, Fire Suppression and Alarm.

* Knowledge of ITIL.

* Solid understanding of Network principals and designs. e.g. TCP/IP,
HTTP, SSL, DNS, Load balancing, Peering, and general familiarity with
voice (POTS and VOIP) networks, terminology and functions. 

* Must be willing to work various shifts as needed, and flexible to
assist in coverage as needed.  Initial position is on Swing Shift.

* Self Starter who is comfortable working as part of a globally
distributed team; Works well with others and has excellent written and
verbal communication skills. 

* Methodical and careful with attention to detail, but flexible to find
creative technical solutions to customer affecting problems.

* Team player with peers in the organization.

 

This position is graveyard shift - 11pm to 9am (4x10) Either Sat-Tues or
