OK - I ran 'ps -ef' and while I don't want to write out *everything* that it
showed, I did look for gdm-related things, as I saw Gnome Desktop Manager
flash by. I also am including a gpm-related thing, because I don't know if
it's relevant or not.
root 155 1 0 17:07ttySO 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/gpm -m /dev/ttySO -t m
root 207 1 0 17:07 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/gdm
root 218 207 0 17:07 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/gdm
root 223 218 9 17:07 ? 00:00:01 /usr/bin/gdmlogin --disable-soun
I'd be interested in knowing what these things mean.
I couldn't get in by typing "linux3" - it didn't like that. Likewise, when I
tried typing in "startx" in text mode (having gotten to text mode via
Ctrl-Alt-F1), it told me it was already running.
