[NCLUG] XFree86 4.1.0 slow compared to 3.3.6?

Make sure you're using the proper X server.  Since you have the Matrox
G200, the server you'll want to use is mga.

Check your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file and make sure it isn't set to use
the FBDev driver, but the mga driver.  (/etc/X11/XF86Config is used by
XF 3.3.x, and is ignored by XF 4.x)

You could try checking the .config file from the SRPM and make sure the
proper AGP, DRI/DRM, and MTRR (You want write combining when writing to
video ram usually) options are set.  A lot of those settings can be
checked by running glxinfo and cating /proc/mtrr.

Other than that, you should try looking thru /var/log/XFree86.0.log.
