[NCLUG] IEEE 1394 support in RH7.3

I remember seeing some discussion about this in the list,
but could not find in the archives.

Will I need to recompile the kernal in the 7.3 distro, or
can I add my card and run?  

Also, has anyone had luck with particular hardware
(firewire pci card chipsets)?  I saw that the TI chipset
was recommended, but am looking for real world
confirmation.
