Have you considered digikam?  It's a big tool, but I felt comfortable with
it fairly quickly.  And it has a *LOT* of tools in it.  If you just need to
crop an image: select the image from the thumbnails, click "edit", select
the area and Control-X (or click the crop button).  You have the option of
undoing it, etc...

I've mostly switched from xv to digikam, but xv is definitely a quick and
easy way to do very basic cropping or the like.  And I have paid the
shareware fee, so that's not an issue.

However, digikam has lots of other features.  For example, it has "Liquid
Rescale" if you want to change the size without cropping.  See a demo of

So, probably doesn't meet your "light weight" requirement, but it's pretty
easy to use to do cropping and much more.

They're currently working on adding face detection.
