Actually, I once wore a Tux polo to an interview with a company in Fort
Collins (ITX I think), but they didn't like me much :)

But it was probably because the guy asked me about a DNS issue,
something that at the time couldn't be done with Windows 2000 DNS but
could with BIND (domain forwarding)- I answered the right way (with
BIND) and he told me with a raised voice that I was wrong, red in the
face- I kid you not. I thanked him for his time and walked away.

My current advice to people is interview your interviewers- ask more
questions than than they do- frankly you want to make sure you're in the
right place and not somewhere that will say one thing and then do
another once they have you there.

All experience is of course relative- the other advice I'd give is to
reach out to some non-profits and help them with their needs. That
shows not only good practical experience but a good personality as
well. It would allow you to showcase your abilities (and give you some
real-world learning) and help you learn how to deal with user requests
and needs- often non-profits are so high-strung I'd say you'll get some
really valuable lessons on dealing with people!

Good luck in your search!

BTW- as fate has it, I just got an Android (the Verizon Motorola Droid)
and I'm intrigued to run SSH... mobile command of my webservers is
sounding pretty good, though I've been pretty happy with webmin's mobile
web abilities... I just want to get better on this keyboard before I
start logging in as root on my servers :)
