[NCLUG] FOSS (OpenWRT) friendly extended-range WiFi home ideas?

As it turns out, after some more research, I *think* I want 802.11s
(mesh), which OpenWRT supports out of the box:

So, 1. find out if my router's hardware supports it, then either buy
another one just like it, or if not, buy two that are, and follow the
setup instructions in the link above :)

Still would like to hear from anyone who thinks there's a better way.
