Job Description:

Systems Revenue Product Engineering (RPE) provides sustaining engineering support for all Sun Microsystems products (Solaris, FW, SAMQ, Solaris Cluster) and OpsCenter System Management SW.  
Patching, Release Gatekeeping and Application/Tool development and support are also functions of this department.

The department interfaces with the Systems Technical Services Center (TSC) to provide problem 
relief for software bugs.  This position will work directly with the TSC in providing detailed 
services information to RPE.



This engineer will interface directly with the Systems Services organization to provide
RPE with escalation metrics, IBIS/Orion DB data, and analysis of this information in order
to improve our business and software focus.  The engineer will be co-located with Services.

The position requires the ability to extract data from services databases, comprehend technical issues, analyze the data, and to assist in the logical organization of support products in to buckets, as well as the implementation of these organized buckets.  Analysis of customer service requests (CSRs) is required to identify key opportunities for quality improvement and reduction of service costs associated with the 7000 Unified Storage Server series.

The ability to extract and analyze data and comprehend technical issues is a requirement.  While DB programming is not a requirement, it is highly recommended for this engineer.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to grasp technical product issues, should be statistically oriented and have the ability to drive quality and serviceability improvements with RPE and the Development product team.  Proactive use of data provides us with insight in to the business and where best to use RPE for sustaining software in the field.

Experience in a service or sustaining organization is a requirement.  Project management skills are desirable, and it is highly desirable that this person have a software engineering background.
