give a look at mondo. our local lug here had the developer by & gave us
a look at it. you can find it at http://www.microwerks.net/~hugo/  he is
a really good guy & works to keep his product updated. very slick since
the idea is to backup the entire computer on as many cd's as needed.
then you can just restore from the cd and off you go. it uses your
existing kernel so everything works fine. on restore you can also change
your disk setup, so that if you goofup your partitions you can easily
restore to a different format.
