So a little more help.
What kind of laptop?
What kind of NIC?
Are you trying to use a module or did you build the NIC support into the
kernel? What module are you using?
Do you get any error messages? Anything in log files?
Any info on boot?
Have you looked at http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/
